    5.0 out of 5 stars Take A Closer Look - Wow, July 26, 2010
This review is from: Sun and Moon Tarot [With Booklet] (Cards)
Illustrator Vanessa Decort has created a stunning yet simple deck with her Sun And Moon Tarot. This latest offering from U.S. Games looks rather plain at first glance but on close inspection, there is a richness and complexity that draws you in and lends new, subtle nuances to your tarot readings. Decort describes the deck this way: "The Sun And Moon Tarot considers universal archetypes and cultural symbols, and also incorporates the artist's own personal symbols."

The deck is comprised of the standard 78 cards, with Majors, Minors and Courts. Based on the Thoth deck, it stays true to the titles that Aleister Crowley used (ex: 7 of Pentacles - Failure; Art - Temperance; Princes and Princes rather than Knights and Pages). I've always been somewhat intimidated by the Thoth deck but Decort has taken that influence and infused it with an almost playful, childlike essence. This could be because she has a background as an illustrator for children's books or perhaps she... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A refreshing new take on Thoth's Tarot, July 14, 2010
    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Sun and Moon Tarot [With Booklet] (Cards)
Sun and Moon Tarot is a new deck inspired on the classic Thoth tarot, created by Vanessa Decort. However, her surrealistic yet lively artwork manage somehow manage to simplify the classic tarot while maintaining most of its mysticism, making it more accessible to everyone.

Somehow, I had excluded this deck from my wish list, so it took me by surprise. I bought it just based on the few pictures I was able to find in the Internet. Suffice to say that I'm glad that I did so, since it is not often that you can get your hands in a new reinterpretation of the classic Thoth Tarot.

The cards in this deck are bordered white. The imagery in these cards often incorporates faceless human figures in lively surrealistic scenes. The symbols found in the Thoth Tarot can also be found in these cards such as the Hebrew Alphabet and planetary associations on the Major Arcana, and elemental symbols on the Minor Arcana.

The Major Arcana are numbered with roman... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Sun and Moon Tarot Review, November 6, 2011

The title, Sun and Moon Tarot, conjures celestial images, thoughts of outer world versus inner world, masculine and feminine, and, of course, two Major Arcana cards. In looking through the deck, it is unclear to me why it is so titled. There don't seem to be any obvious references to celestial bodies, light and dark, God and Goddess, or inner and outer worlds. The deck does have a sense of universality; we are all different, and yet all one. Perhaps that is what Vanessa Decort was trying to convey with her heavenly title; that we are all the same under the sun and the moon.

Unlike many tarot artists, Vanessa Decort is both a tarotist and an artist. Her first introduction to tarot was the Crowley Thoth Harris deck. According to the deck's accompanying materials, Decort designed the deck "to deepen her understanding of tarot's messages". It was her goal to incorporate in Sun and Moon Tarot "universal archetypes and symbols from many cultures".

The colors of Sun... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Domestic Divination!, February 17, 2005

This review is from: The Housewives Tarot (Cards)
These cards are some of the most well packaged ones I've seen in awhile. The recipe type box that they come in features dividers (with actual recipes on the back!) to keep everything in place.

The cards themselves are on a good card stock, and have cute gingham backs and wonderful retro images on the fronts. It's been said that the cards are "out of order" but this is not so. Seeing as the "order" has been changed a lot throughout history, there is only the order that we know, not the order that is right. That aside, this was done purposefully - the creators felt that one should meet their Earthly parents before their Spiritual ones. With that in mind, the change is not only unbothersome, it's welcome. It's the first sign that a lot of thought went into this deck.

The images are inspiring, and even people who know nothing of tarot were telling me what the cards meant, because they could relate to the pictures. I've had many a breakthrough with these, and... Read more

"According to gossip, The Housewives Tarot was introduced by housewife extraordinaire Marlene Louise in the early 1950's. She was a happy homemaker who seemed to have it all-a devoted husband and obedient children, a sparkling home that was the talk of the town, a fashion sense to die for, and far more than her fair share of women's intuition." - From the instruction book

The Housewives Tarot is a hilarious domestic divination kit that comes in an attractive "recipe" box. The recipe dividers separate the Major Arcana, Minor Arcana, and the instruction book. If that's not amusing enough, there are actual recipes on the back of these dividers, including Divinated Eggs and Ice Box Fortune Cake.

I'm not a fan of 50's décor and I assumed this deck was a mere novelty.

      Boy was I wrong!

While some of the montages are laugh-out-loud hilarious in presentation, there is a kernel of truth in each depiction. For example, The Magician sports... Read more

In spite of the many tarot decks I own, this one is totally unique in its own right. The cards are inspired by the 1950's Ozzie and Harriet era, yet are easy to understand and easy to read. When the deck was given to me as a gift, I thought it would be just another half-hearted attempt to blend a motif into tarot cards - but this one actually works. The writer and illustrator actually know what the cards mean and have devised a deck that meshes insightful cards with hilarious interpretations. It's well worth the money - whether you're a seasoned reader or a novice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Art But, September 15, 2008

This review is from: Enchanted Oracle (Book & Cards) (Paperback)
First, this is not a tarot deck. There are 36 cards in the deck, to be used as a self examination tool. The kit contains a deck of cards. a nice little silver nylon bag to keep the cards in, a fairy charm on a ribbon necklace and a book explaining the deck. The fairy necklace is cute, and tells me the deck is focused on the young adult. And going into the book, this is very clear. But let's examine the contents that make you want to buy this kit.

The deck is beautiful. This is classic Galbreth material. I've seen many of these illustrations on Jessica's site and if you ever wanted to own copies of her work, there are 36 cards here of some of her best work. The deck is very eye appealing. The titles of the works go with the images. Most of the images are female, with male counterparts in two couple scenes, a Green Man, and Cernunnos presented with a female figure. There is a pregnant mother figure and a mother with child. The balance of the deck is young female... Read more

This review is from: Enchanted Oracle (Book & Cards) (Paperback)
I was somewhat disappointed with these cards. The art work is incredable!! However, the quality of the cards is not what I expected. They look cheep. I expected the cards to look and be of good quality and they are rather thin and the color is not as vivid as I would have liked. I am familiar with Jessica Galbreth's art work and it is exceptionally beautiful. I expected the cards to be no different. It's not that the color needs to be red or orange, it's just that it looks like they tried to use less ink? They are thin and flimsy. Other cards that I have purchased have used better material for their cards. It's as if they are not the 'real' product, and I purchased a replica.

They have beautiful art work and the book is good. I haven't worked with them much since I got them because I was soooo disappointed in how they looked. I couldn't wait for them to arrive and then I saw how they looked and really haven't picked them up but a few times since. The book is detailed and... Read more

This review is from: Enchanted Oracle (Book & Cards) (Paperback)
"Here you will find knowledge, skills and tools that will help you craft the magical life of your dreams." ~ Excerpt from "Destiny's Portal."

Opening the box of this set was a real treat. The images are gorgeous. Some are whimsical and innocent, while others are a bit dark and intense. These faeries definitely make you want to unfold your wings and fly with them.

The artwork for the "Enchanted Oracle" has been created, by the talented, Jessica Galbreth. This deck is the first by this artist, but you can find her work in numerous formats, from prints, greeting cards, calendars, books and collectible figurines.

Jessica lives in Ohio with her husband and their two children. She considers herself largely self-taught, even though she did study fine art for three years at the Toledo Museum of Art. Most of her work is done with watercolor, pen and ink.

The cards are standard size with a matte finish. They are borderless, with a small title... Read more
